DIY Faux Canvas Wall Art

The interior walls of a home create an atmosphere and tell the story of your home and family. Wall art weaves the color scheme of a space and creates a mood in the environment. Consider for instance the decor movement in children's bedrooms throughout Australia. The Internet and publications are adorned with the adorable decor popular in home decor for children. Teepees, garland, yellow Lego head storage containers and black and white accessories to name a few are enormously featured decor ideas. A second trend is the collage appeal of wall art displays. A modge podge of items are grouped together in a space to create a cluttered often abstract design in a space. The collage often features canvas art in a variety of sizes and styles. The canvas art is then surrounded by mismatched items that may include word art, monogram letters, maps, pictures, frames with or without photos and anything else that one may fancy. The popular interior decorating magazines feature photos of such beautiful spaces that are often attached to a high price tag.

It is possible to avoid the high cost of purchasing art to decorate your home. You can create your own DIY faux Canvas Art. You will need a sheet of adhesive foam . The foam can be purchased at a local craft store. You will also need fabric, scissors, a glue gun and glue sticks. The foam cost around eight dollars for two sheets. It is available in a variety of sizes and prices. When it comes to the fabric be sure to choose a fabric that will help create the look that you would like in your space. Consider the color scheme of the space. Are you going to use the fabric print to create a flow of a particular color or colors? Would you like to add a pop of color or flare to a collage style wall of art? Are you creating a masterpiece for the baby's nursery? I chose a print that was in my fabric stash. I purchased the fabric on clearance when the local Joanne's Fabric and Craft store changed out the home decor samples. For just a few dollars,  I purchased a few of the samples to sew into pillows.

To create the faux art:

Remember that foam can easily be broken. Proceed with caution to avoid smashing or breaking the foam.

Cut the fabric to a length where it will stretch across the foam and have the ability to be stretched around the sides of the foam.

Remove the protective sheet from the foam to expose the adhesive.

Place the fabric onto the adhesive. Make sure to stretch the fabric to avoid bunching. Stretching the create a flat surface that will appear canvas like when completed.

Wrap the fabric around the sides of the foam. The foam that I used measured an inch and a half thick. Pull the fabric tightly towards the back.

Make sure the fabric has been pulled as tight as possible. Apply pressure to the surface of the foam and fabric to attach the fabric to the adhesive.

Once the fabric is completely in place, cut off the excess fabric. Leave enough cloth to pull it tightly in place. Lastly,  use the glue gun and glue to permanently adhere the fabric to the back of the foam.

Once complete,  you will have a DIY Faux Canvas Art Print. You can hang the print easily with the foam backing. I created three of the foam pieces in different sizes and hung them in an arrangement at different heights. I chose to hang my faux canvas in the dining room. The dining room can be seen from both the living room and kitchen. Pillows sewn from the same fabric print will join the living room decor creating a flow of this color scheme within the two rooms.

Halloween Small Rag Wreath

We spent a little time this evening crafting! I began working on a few projects for upcoming Halloween Swap events. I wanted to make a smaller Halloween rag wreath from left over fabric that I had to made my little mister a Halloween themed pillow for school nap time. I liked the fabric print so much that I bought the remainder of the bolt.

I made a door wreath with the same fabric alternating with two other printsva few years ago.I plan to unpack the Fall decorations soon . one of my favorite pieces is the rag wreath.
My little is excited about decorating.

This evening, Miss.A talked about crafts . She participated and planned crafts. Daddy worked on paper crafts making a pretty cool rocket craft. The little made several drawings and then he created a cute monster.

I dididn't get an opportunity to take a picture of dad's work.It blasted off before I could snapa shot of it. Unfortunately, it was a b bit dark when these pictures were taken. Anyway, it was a fun mini craft session!

Craft and Holiday Swappers Where Are You?

I've really been enjoying playing on Instagram. Today,  I stumbled upon a few pictures associated with a sewing swap. The theme was strawberries. The craft projects were reallycute.

It reminded me of happier days before making our cross country move.We lived in the country and I loved the environment. This time two or three years ago,  I participated in a Holiday Swap with a fellow crafter. We exchanged holiday and craft goodies.I even sent adorable little socks for her infant and a few items for her little boy.I probably went overboard but it was really fun!

I'd like to join some holiday and craft swaps to enjoy making new pen pal friends and have fun . I'd love to learn of any such events that may be going on . swapping fun here I come!

I Forgot The Happy 4th Of July Banner

I am still playing around with my Cricut and Craft scraps. I gave away the majority of my craft supply when we moved. Unfortunately, I just love doing crafts projects. The lack of supplies and a zero craft balance really limits my creativity. However,  thankfully, I have my scraps!

So, I decided to throw together a 4th of July banner. It helps to decorate my office and can be seen as you enter the living room.White walls can be so boring and blah.

So, I worked with the resources that I have and created a little banner. I still have a lot of practice to go before my banners will meet my approval but in the meantime, it is fun and great for my soul to create!

I think this one could be better. It is definitely lacking something. Perhaps, it would have been better as one strand if a banner rather than three? It actually hung on the wall for two days before I realized that I actually forgot the Happy. How could I have forgotten the Happy?  What was I thinking ? Anyway,  I wish everyone a Happy and Safe 4th of July!

Rainbow Graduation Banner Tutorial

We Love to do arts and crafts projects in our home. I often craft with my Cricut machine for parties, school projects, fun and I even sell cute confetti/ table scatter!

I wanted to create a colorful Graduation banner to celebrate Miss.Z's High School Graduation!

I consider her school colors as a theme. However, I wanted less drab of a banner. Something that she may wish to keep and decorate her room with. At very least,  something fun and colorful!

I decided to go with a rainbow theme. I just love rainbows. All of the colors together!

Well, I must say that I love the beautiful projects that can be found on Pinterest, the wonderful Etsy, Instagram and so forth. However, when it's your first time making something, sometimes it's not Pinterest material! I will share how the banner was made. However,  keep in mind that I would recommend assembling the pieces together on the side or sew them together. I used a tag style and strung them with fishing wire adding ribbon for color. I weaved the line through the tag notch on the top if each piece. It allows too much play for the pieces in my opinion. There's a first for everything and this was my first banner!

I cut out the pieces of my banner with the Cricut and two cartridges: Basic George and Tie the Knot!

I cut out Tags in a 2 1/2 inch size. I cut Circles to place each letter. I cut each letter to fit the circle base. Unfortunately,  it's been a few weeks and I don't recall the exact measurements of the circles and letters. I planned my strategy in advance. I knew that I wanted rainbow colors. I chose to plan on the circles being placed in a pattern opposite of the tag. I wanted each similar letter placed in the same color of circle.

Tag pattern: Red,Orange,Yellow,Green,Blue and purple.

Circle Pattern: Purple,Blue,Green,Yellow,Orange and Red.

I chose the letter pattern in my preference.

Once the pieces were cut, I placed the tags in order on the floor.
Next, I glued the circle onto the tags with Tacky Glue.
Then, I glued on the letters.

Once the paper was dry, I tied a knot in the beginning of the fishing line. I weaved the clear fishing line through each tag. Be sure to add each tag in order. I began from the first letter of each pattern. I tied off the end of the fishing line. Choose the length of fishing line that you desire based upon the size that you want the banner to be.

I then hung my banner in the wall. I tied colorful ribbon to each end if the banner. I then tied in rainbow order additional ribbon to place between each tag to keep the letters spaced apart. I then clipped the ribbon to lengths that I liked. Second lesson: If I were to create a tag style banner again,  I'd pre-cut the ribbon to be the same length. I'm not perfect by any means but I enjoyed making the banner for the graduate!

I was happy with the result. I would have liked the banner to have been closer inbetween the letters. It was my first banner and a learning experience. I kept the banner up for a week. Then, I took down the second half of the banner with Miss.Z's name leaving the Congratulations to celebrate the end of the school year for the children! We enjoyed three weeks of a colorful rainbow banner!
